Darkroom - 2005
The starting
point was a frame of these arches, at Fort Point,
south end of the G.G. Bridge, in San Francisco.

So I expose 4 sheets that look like this:

(This is the kind of 'guide' that is on my easel, taped down in register.)
The first two
passes(below) were interesting....but predictable and uninspired.
(First I added the water at the bottom... and several different 'tops',
from negs made at Joshua Tree.)

"predictable and uninspired" doesn't cut it....does it?
I had noticed
another neg(below) before I started,
but put it aside, since I had used a similar frame at least once before,
and I have something of an aversion to using the same frame/situation..twice.
It's from a roll or so I shot around the lake behind Barker Dam, at Joshua
Tree.
(If you ever go there?... wander "off the beaten path" - you'll be glad you did.)

So I gave it
a spin....with the last exposed sheet of the arches,
that I 'kept in reserve' / hadn't added anything to.

Ah! Now that's more like it!
Blending at the
top of the arches isn't right,
but there's plenty there to blend in both negs.
What I am really liking about this is the way the arches
connect with the reflections of the rocks...
Time for more refinement....(and another bowl ! - hehehe!)
Here's a horizontal version, done digitally.

And a darkroom version.

Looking Beyond
(the final version)
(Other than some
'levels' adjustments to compensate for an old, tired scanner...
This has not been 'photoshop-ed' at all...it didn't need it.)
Personally,
I like the darkroom version better -
the vertical format emphasizes the tension between the two parts.
