Center of balance

The nucleus is the fellow balanced on the log, of course - the shot was taken at the mouth of the Russian River, in northern California, where lots of debris ( including entire trees) collects.

The sand bar and rocks beyond the figure are part of this neg, too.

Weaved into the foreground are some 'bowling ball' type rocks that are formed at the shoreline, as the ebb and flow of tides/storms turns 'chunks' of rock into smooth orbs./ irregular 'balls'... There are some famous examples of this in No. Calif., ( Bowling Ball Beach, i think ) - this is a microcosm, a few feet wide, shot at Pillar Point/Princeton Harbor.

The scale at the top was shot on the same trip as the figure - it was in a display of train memorabilia. The 'center of balance' type , found stenciled on something military in the Marin headlands.

The top image at top left is from Joshua Tree ( a great place for rock formations ) - the percarious balancing act of the rocks is what connects it to the rest of the image... and even though I had no intention of it, the roundness of the stone echoes the stone shapes at the bottom....
